The big resort for the little ones!

Val Louron

Forget everything you imagine about the resorts, the crowds, the atmosphere, the prices, the slopes. Here, it’s another world, with lots of charm. A paradise for children and their parents.

The resort is a benchmark in the Pyrenees for ski instruction and accessibility, with the most popular beginners’ area in the Pyrenees, its ski school and its simple, family-friendly, natural atmosphere.

Its geographical location on the Azet ridge gives it a strategic position between Loudenvielle-Peyragudes on one side and Saint-Lary on the other, and fabulous views for ski touring and snowshoeing.

Domain

The ski area

Val Louron offers one of the most wonderful places to make your first tracks in the snow. The Piou-Piou garden is right on the snow front. The bubble-covered carpet of the Trounquet makes it easier to climb. Gone are the ski-lift and its rough poles, long live the chairlift which leads quietly to the green slopes in the middle of the fir trees. Once they’ve learnt the ropes, children can board the Myrtilles chairlift and set off with their friends to conquer the ski area in complete safety.

Station

La Station

In Val Louron, everything is done on foot. No need for a car. From your accommodation, where the views of the peaks and forests are nothing short of breathtaking, all you have to do is put on your skis or snowshoes and enjoy the ski area. Everything is within easy reach.

Ideal for the family

What attracts families with young children to Val Louron is above all its happy tranquillity. You won’t be disturbed by the noise of the bars and nightlife! All the accommodation – around twenty chalets and a few residences – is at the foot of the slopes, so getting around is a breeze. The snow front is wide and open, so parents can sit comfortably on the terrace and watch their children ski. The family holidays on offer are very reasonably priced. As for ski passes, this is one of the cheapest resorts in the Pyrenees and one of the most peaceful and welcoming.

Nature

Snowshoeing & Ski touring

In Val Louron, the few ski slopes are enough. The rest is taken care of by the wild nature and superb scenery, to the delight of those who love winter holidays in the mountains.

The Lapadé forest

A family walk

The curious can venture out on the snowshoe trail in the Lapadé forest, which borders the beginners’ area. Look out for the tracks of the many animals that inhabit this forest, before admiring the spectacular view of the peaks that form the border with Spain from a lookout point.

Off-piste skiing

Paradise lost

For the more adventurous who would like to try out a great off-piste descent with a mountain professional, Val Louron is the well-known spot for ski touring. Easily accessible from the heights of the resort, there’s something for everyone, from short introductory hikes to steep slopes, with the added bonus of breathtaking views over the valley.

The crests of Azet

360° views of the Pyrenees

But our favourite spot is the crêtes d’Azet. Wearing snowshoes or cross-country skis, you can follow the ridge line to this breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the Aure and Louron valleys. Highly recommended for those tempted by adventure in wild terrain!

The village

Loudenvielle

An easy road winds its way down through the forest to reach the valley, with its charming little villages and lake. Here you’ll find a wide range of accommodation options, in residences, hotels and even 5-star campsites, in typical resorts that are sometimes a little livelier. This is particularly true of Loudenvielle, a small village on the edge of the lake, which offers accommodation, shops and a variety of activities, not forgetting its famous 100-year-old local bistro “chez Rogé” , where Claire, the owner, improvises rounds of Pyrenean songs for all to enjoy.

Loudenvielle & its valley

Take a walk by the lake or through the narrow streets of the villages, visit a chapel, discover how spit-roasted cakes are made, swim at Balnéa… Loudenvielle and its valley complete the range of winter mountain pleasures for Val Louron holidaymakers.

During the February holidays, a free shuttle bus runs daily between Loudenvielle and the resort of Val Louron. And the Skyvall gondola links the village of Loudenvielle to the resort of Peyragudes.

BALNÉA

Spa Centre

In Loudenvielle, you can relax and recharge your batteries at Balnéa. Nestling on the edge of the lake, in the heart of nature and surrounded by peaks, it’s by far one of the best spots in the Pyrenees! Its vast open-air lagoons with water at between 33 and 40°C and panoramic views of the valley’s peaks, including the famous Pic du Hourgade, have been the talk of the town since they opened.
