An exuberant nature

Cauterets Pont d'Espagne

The Pont d’Espagne is one of the region’s “Grands Sites”, and is now one of the places to go if you want to recharge your batteries on a hike and marvel at the scenery. Right in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park, waterfalls such as the Lutour murmur their melody, and the paths lead you to the Lac de Gaube, whose clear green waters seem to merge with the surrounding peaks. In winter, the Pont d’Espagne is covered in a blanket of white, inviting you to put on your snowshoes or go cross-country skiing with your family.

Outdoor activities

In all seasons

This is the starting point for a number of hikes, particularly to Lac de Gaube, a must-see destination. This lake is renowned for its emerald waters reflecting the Vignemale, the highest peak in the French Pyrenees.

In winter, the site is transformed into a Nordic paradise, offering activities such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tobogganing. The Plateau du Clot, for example, has pistes for beginners and marked trails for snowshoeing.

In the footsteps of the poets

An inspiring picnic

The Puntas cable car and chairlift provide access to Lac de Gaube, which in the last century inspired some of the greatest Romantic poets (Baudelaire, Victor Hugo…) who came to recharge their batteries in this majestic setting, dominated by the Vignemale and its eternal snows.
