Discover the resort

The Grand Tourmalet ski resort is expanding its vast ski area, the largest in the French Pyrenees, on either side of the famous pass. As the scenery changes, you can ski the wide, easy pistes at La Mongie, venture into the wild Aygues-Cluses valley with its exceptional views of the Néouvielle massif, weave your way through the fir forests of the Ayré above Barèges, or take on the freeride routes of the Pic du Midi…

Tame the slopes of the Pic du Midi

Skiing the faces of the Pic du Midi is a unique experience in the Pyrenees, the equivalent of La Grave in the Alps. With its high-mountain itineraries in a pristine, ungroomed and unmarked area, the freeride area is accessible by cable car. But before you set off at an altitude of almost 3,000m, you’ll need a good knowledge of the mountains and the sport. For a safe descent, there’s nothing better than following the tracks and taking the advice of a professional, such as a mountain guide.

Among the itineraries, the ” Coume du Pic ” on the La Mongie side promises a 10km descent with a vertical drop of over 1,700 metres, while the ” Classique ” on the Barèges side leads all the way to the Tourmalet chairlift. From the Taoulet intermediate station, routes such as the yellow, green and violet offer a good start.

La Mongie & Barèges

One area, two resorts

LA MONGIE
To the east, La Mongie offers the comfort of a resort at the foot of the high altitude pistes. It’s also on this slope that you can board the Pic du Midi cable car and stay in a 4* hotel.

BARÈGES
To the west is Barèges, with all the traditional charm and entertainment of a Pyrenean village and its Cieléo spa centre, where you can relax in a jacuzzi under an elegant glass dome overlooking the mountains. Just 10 minutes by free shuttle bus to the foot of the slopes and the intimate, wooded atmosphere of the Plateau du Lienz.
