BAGNÈRES-DE-BIGORRE

Aquensis

Bagnères-de-Bigorre has been renowned for its health benefits since ancient times, and is a true wellness destination, where thermal water is combined with a variety of treatments for body and mind. At the Aquensis balneotherapy centre, enjoy moments of relaxation in areas bathed in this precious water, personalised aquatic relaxation sessions, as well as gymnastics and weight training in the fitness area. A wide range of facial and body treatments completes this revitalising experience.

The azure-blue façade of this elegant town house sets the tone. This is the spa town in the Pyrenees with the most dazzling history. In the 19th century, attracted by the spa, an elitist and cultured clientele flocked to Bagnères-de-Bigorre, then known as theAthens of the Pyrenees. The greatest names in literature, the arts and the sciences met in the salons, the casino and the theatre. This intellectual effervescence led to the construction of France’s 1st high-altitude observatory at the Pic du Midi, as well as the Museum of Natural History.

The creation of Aquensis is part of this prestigious tradition. A balneotherapy centre and architectural gem, its baths and lagoon bubble under a majestic cathedral-like wooden framework, and its nineteenth-century salons provide an elegant setting for massages and body wraps.

Relaxation areas

A moment for you

The large thermal water pool

The 300 m2 relaxation area features a large pool of34° thermal spring water. Naturally rich in trace elements, calcium, sulphate and magnesium, it has made Bagnères-de-Bigorre famous since ancient times. Featuring goosenecks, jets, water curtains, misters, counter-currents and whirlpools, the large pool is surrounded by sixteen huge larchwood columns that rise up to form a majestic framework.

In a more intimate room, the aqua music pool with hydro massages plays with light and darkness. Like a midnight bath, your ears are immersed in the water, your body feels light, the music adds a gentle touch and helps to relieve accumulated tension.

The panoramic terrace

Take the lift to the top. On the top floor, two Finnish saunas frame a small veranda. This opens onto a terrace with wooden cobblestones in a protected, wooded setting with panoramic views.

The highest part, the solarium, offers a magnificent panorama of the spa town and the mountains that dominate it. From the comfort of your sun loungers, all you have to do is admire the Bédat forest and the Pyrenean peaks.

On the forest side, there are two jacuzzis where you can enjoy the sparkling delights of the open air, summer and winter alike.

The hammam

Upstairs, the hammam area offers a real journey into an oriental world tinged with Pyrenean touches.

Footsteps caress the marble as you pass through misty alcoves and vaulted rooms of varying temperatures, lined with warm benches also made of Pyrenean marble. The body evacuates toxins and the skin becomes supple.

The journey comes to an end in the dark wood lace kiosk, where you can sip mint tea under the subdued lights and in a relaxing musical atmosphere.

A wide range of treatments

for body and mind

Treatments for two

To share a romantic interlude as a couple, or a moment of complicity between friends, mother and daughter or sister/sister, the treatments and massages can be enjoyed by two. The first area combines balneotherapy with light therapy. The Yin-Yang bathtub, with its hydromassage treatment using essential oils, welcomes two people for twice the well-being. Then, in the cosy, intimate duo cabin, head to head in the silence, the tandems surrender themselves to the expert hands for a ritual.

Caring for Pyrenean flora

Bagnères-de-Bigorre’s scientific heritage is not limited to the Pic du Midi observatory. It goes hand in hand with the knowledge of nature that is promoted by the Conservatoire Botanique National des Pyrénées, based in Bagnères-de-Bigorre.

Imbued with this sensitivity, the Aquensis centre offers a range of treatments based onorganic essential oils from the flora of the Pyrenees.
