Warm up on the Saugué plateau, your first glimpse of the breathtaking Cirque de Gavarnie. You start out near isolated barns, where the lush green meadows that surround them in summer have given way to a white coat. A superb first shot against the backdrop of the Cirque de Gavarnie. Higher up, the barns disappear to reveal a system of vast coombs, often covered in generous amounts of snow, ideal for snowshoeing.

Ice cascades and a frozen lake
Starting from the Pont d’Espagne, you climb through pines and fir trees; nearby, the bitter cold freezes the banks of the torrent into magical sculptures and other ice crystals. As you gain altitude, the pines become rarer, the majestic Vignemale appears on the horizon and you discover the frozen expanses of the legendary Lac de Gaube in a truly picture-postcard landscape.

Entrance to the Néouvielle massif
Upstream from Barèges, hike towards the delightful Aygues-Cluses valley – gateway to the Néouvielle massif – and its small pine groves. The view from the recently-built refuge at the foot of these beautiful granite peaks is magical!

Hiking in the Cirque de Gavarnie
In the solitude of winter, in the heart of the Cirque de Gavarnie and its crown of peaks culminating at over 3000 m altitude. Immerse yourself in the enchantment of its frozen waterfalls, suspended in the verticality of this mineral amphitheatre. You’ll be facing the heart of the Cirque, on the peaceful La Prade plateau. As you walk along, the immense monochrome sculpture, standing proudly in front of you, will reveal all the poetry of its tortured lines, sublimated by winter. Panoramic views from Hautacam
Walk to Hautacam for a 360° view of the plain and the Pic du Midi observatory perched at 2877m. The route takes you across and then over wide ridges that lead to the Pic de Barran and Pic du Mont. Descend the north-facing slope via a number of playful valleys. Return to your charming little cocoon for a special end-of-stay dinner!
