Wandering under the stars

When evening takes over from daylight, when the sun slowly withdraws its glare from the slightest relief, a new adventure begins. Headlamps on, snowshoes on… and accompanied by Joël, we head for the Pont d’Espagne and its waterfalls, in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park. A sumptuous setting for a sparkling night, right in the heart of the International Dark Sky Reserve. Here in the Pyrenees, one of the places in Europe best preserved from light pollution, the sky is so dark that it’s easy to see the Orion nebula with the naked eye.

Arrival day

Arrive in the afternoon and settle into your hotel in the centre of Cauterets. You will have dinner and spend your first night in the hotel.

Continuation of the holiday

Skiing and relaxation for two

After breakfast, take the nearby cable car up to Cauterets ski resort. The ski area at the heart of the cirque du Lys has the advantage of being panoramic and offering some of the best natural snow cover in the Pyrenees.

In the late afternoon, recharge your batteries at the Bains du Rocher. Take a relaxing break in the indoor and outdoor pools of naturally warm water to swim against the current, relax in the jacuzzis and enjoy the massaging jets and soothing bubbles. The sauna, hammam and salt stone relaxation room round off these relaxing moments.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Skiing and night walks

After breakfast, you’ll head off to the Cirque du Lys for another day of skiing that’s 100% fun.

At 7 p.m. you’ll meet Joël, your mountain guide and astronomy enthusiast. He’ll be offering you a night-time stargazing tour of the Pont d’Espagne in Cauterets. It’s an easy, original walk where you can take your time observing the sky, listening to a story or two, and sharing a snack in an igloo with local produce, soup and mulled wine!

You’ll be back in your hotel by 11 p.m. for a cosy night’s sleep.

You leave your hotel after breakfast. This is the end of your stay for two in Cauterets.

With their air of English “ladies”, the two sisters, Bernadette and Rose Marie, despite being natives of the area, have created an environment in this family home that reflects their image. Lace and embroidery, pink or blue bedspreads and antique knick-knacks make the place a real ‘bonbonnière‘. The bedrooms are love nests where every detail – like the lavender sachets hanging from the wardrobe door handles – imbues you with romance.
