    Arrival at the hotel

Arrive in the morning in Cauterets. You can leave your luggage at the hotel.

Snowshoe hike to the frozen lake

Meet your mountain leader at 1pm for the snowshoe hike to Lac de Gaube, the highlight of your stay in Cauterets. After an introduction to snowshoeing and walking techniques, your guide will take you off the main path to discover the waterfalls, laquets and other wonders that abound in this beautiful snow-covered forest. After a succession of short climbs and small plateaus, you will reach the frozen lake. From the lake, you can admire the north face of the Vignemale, the highest mountain in the French Pyrenees at 3,298 m. To top it all off, this route is often an opportunity to see isards at close quarters!

    Continuation of the holiday

    Snowy hikes and barbecues

Meet your mountain leader at 9am for the hike and barbecue! Initiated many years ago by Joël, this outing is first and foremost a real snowshoe hike where you will cover between 300 and 450 metres of ascent. There’s no set itinerary, so we can adapt to the snow and weather conditions as best we can: a panoramic ridge with a 360° view, a shepherd’s hut, and if it’s snowing hard, you can take refuge in the snow-covered forest. The conviviality will be at its best at the lunchtime barbecues, where your guide will prepare a fire for you and cook some delicious local meat! And as usual, you’ll be served a Pyrenean pie and a hot drink for dessert. The barbecue hike is guaranteed to leave you with good memories (and a full belly)! Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Stroll and relax in the spa

Free morning: you can stroll through the village ofCauterets, discover its shops and boutiques and enjoy a moment of relaxation at the Les Bains du Rocher spa centre.

    Hiking in Gavarnie

Meet your mountain leader at 12 noon and set off for the hike to Gavarnie, the must-see site in the area! Here’s a snowshoe hike to Gavarnie and its famous glacial cirque culminating at an altitude of over 3,000 metres, with one of the highest waterfalls (frozen in winter) in Europe at its heart! A true hiker’s paradise, this major site in the Pyrenees is a must-see in every season. Your guide will tell you all about the history of the site, the stories of the first Pyrenean climbers and guides to scale this colossus, the animals that live there and how to traverse the landscape in complete safety. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Hiking and panoramic views at Hautacam

Meet your mountain guide at 10am for the hike to Hautacam. Here, it’s a rendezvous with the great white! Panoramic views from the border peaks to the nearby plain of Tarbes, wide ridges with gentle slopes, and plenty of sunshine! A mecca for pastoralists, the herds that graze here in summer maintain an open landscape overlooking the vast forests of Isaby and Gazost, also renowned for their stag bellowing. This position at the gateway to the Pyrenean mountain range means you can see many peaks, including Balaïtous, Gabizos, Ardiden, Pic du Midi, Montaigu and Léviste. Add to that a legend and a little snack, tucked away among the peaks, and you’ve got yourself one hell of an outing! End of the tour after the hike.

    Visit to Cauterets

You will leave your hotel after breakfast. Before you leave, take the time to stroll through Cauterets, a small mountain town that was home to Chateaubriand, Victor Hugo, Baudelaire, Debussy… Don’t miss: the Boulevard Latapie-Flurin with its succession of sculptures and monumental porches from the Belle Époque, the Casino esplanade, the Hotel 1900 and the astonishing wooden bus station.
