Walks and discoveries

Cauterets-Pont d’Espagne – Lac de Gaube

When you arrive at the Puntas car park, look out as you prepare to enter the Cauterets-Pont d’Espagne site, one of the most visited places in the Pyrenees National Park. Here, every nook and cranny is teeming with life.

Higher up, the splendid Lac de Gaube waits patiently beneath the fascinating Vignemale, the highest massif in the French Pyrenees. If it’s up to it, you’ll have the pleasure of seeing its reflection on the turquoise waters. A magical experience.

Numerous facilities and footpaths offer a variety of ways to enjoy this Pyrenean Garden of Eden effortlessly. We recommend that you take the two successive ski lifts, the Puntas gondola lift and the Gaube chairlift, to reach Lac de Gaube after a 15-minute walk. You can then explore the site on your way back down, either on foot or by chairlift.

The Lutour and Cerisey waterfalls

From the village of Cauterets, head towards the Pont d’Espagne. A succession of waterfalls and bubbling torrents, the road that takes you there is a real spectacle in itself. Stop off at La Raillère. The Lutour waterfall is signposted. A short climb leads to a footbridge.

In front of you, the waterfall in the forest. Continue along the route and a sign will direct you to the Cerisey waterfall, which is directly visible from the road. If you’re not afraid of being sprayed, approach the railing.

The Cayan plateau

A lovely walk, ideal for a picnic by the water, a siesta under the pines and spotting a marmot. The path quickly leads to the plateau and refuge of Le Clot.

The track then runs quietly along the Gave to the bottom of the plateau. Here you’ll find the little Cayan bridge.

La Fruitière in the Lutour valley

Like the Pont d’Espagne, the setting at La Fruitière is enchanting. You can stroll along pretty streams and meet beautiful waterfalls all along the Lutour valley. You can also have lunch by the water, in the shade of the forest.

The waterfalls trail

This is a classic way to discover the tumultuous waterfalls for which Cauterets is famous. In the Val de Jéret, the path follows the course of the Gave.

As the terrain changes, you’ll discover waterfalls, some with clear, gentle waters, others with bubbling, tumultuous waters such as the Cerisey waterfall.

The path allows you to get up close and personal to witness a continuous firework display of spray.

The Crêtes du Lys

From the village, take the Lys gondola lift and enjoy a 15-minute ascent above the mountains and Cauterets. For even more height, take the Grand-Barbat chairlift and you’ll be at an altitude of 2,400 metres. The ride over the ridges is incredible and a magnificent view of the Pyrenean peaks awaits you!

Once you’ve reached the crests of the Lys, you can head towards the Ilhéou pass and get closer to the Ilhéou lake. The walk is sublime and the encounters with marmots and horses make it even more beautiful. Keep your eyes wide open!

Les Bains du Rocher, balneotherapy centre

With its jade floor and calade walls, the Bains du Rocher is a space dedicated to relaxation and well-being in a world as original as it is refined. Here, naturally warm thermal water plays both indoor and outdoor games: inside, it flows through a lagoon delicately lit by a majestic dome; outside, it offers you the pleasure of bathing in all seasons. To relax or have fun, there are goosenecks, counter-current swimming, massage jets, jacuzzi, bubble beds and benches…

To relax, there’s a steam room, sauna, salt stone relaxation room and the warm, restful atmosphere of the Spa Café… To soothe body and mind, there are Californian, energy or cocooning massages using natural essential oils, Dead Sea cosmetic treatments…
