The Cirque de Gavarnie – a UNESCO World Heritage Site
As soon as you drive through the village, the Cirque de Gavarnie jumps out at you and grabs you by the throat. More than 5km in circumference, vertical walls 1,500m high and hundreds of waterfalls.
A colossus of the Pyrenees, it is as majestic as the emotions it arouses. A breathtaking sight.
The cradle of Pyreneanism, this exceptional site has attracted scientists, painters and poets since the 16th century. Anyone arriving in front of this prodigious wall will easily understand why. Its concentric tiers follow one another in almost perfect symmetry, dominated by a cohort of giants: the Casque (3,006m), the Marboré (3,248m), the Taillon (3,144m) and the legendary Brèche de Roland. Not forgetting, in the background, one of the highest waterfalls in Europe, at 423m…

After two years of renovation work, the hotel is returning to its origins. An essential stopover before the ascent of the summits as early as 1845, a secret room sheltered from visitors contains the testimonies of the first Pyrenean climbers: the guides’ room. Reviving the hotel tradition started by his great-grandparents, Olivier opened eight rooms with a unique, direct view of the Cirque de Gavarnie.
At the foot of this wall, Victor Hugo’s “Colosseum of Nature”, Olivier welcomes his guests to a gourmet restaurant for dinner, where local produce takes centre stage. In the attic, a sauna offers a relaxing interlude after walking the surrounding paths all around the site. A magical night in a period setting and a purely authentic, unspoilt world right in the heart of the Pyrenees National Park.
