3 days / 2 nights

Day 1

From the Tournaboup car park, we’ll head up the superb Aygues Cluses valley, along the banks of the Gave and between the hooked pines, until we reach the Aygues Cluses plateau. Continuing along the GR10, we arrive at the Madamète lakes, an ideal spot for a bivouac.

A dip in the lake, a log fire and a superbly starry sky are the ingredients for a perfect end to the day.

Distance: 7 kms, Difference in altitude: 850 m.

Day 2

Today we’ll start by climbing the Col de Madamète, and the peak of the same name, from where the view of the Néouvielle massif is breathtaking! Then, continuing along the GR10, we’ll reach the busy but magnificent Lac d’Aumar, before reaching the base of the col of the same name.

The climb here is short but steep, and leads to the basin of the Estibère lakes, one of the wildest parts of the region. A succession of little-frequented plateaux and lakes will take us close to Gourguet, a stretch of water next to which we will pitch our tents for a second night at altitude.

Distance: 9 kms Ascent: 750 m.

Day 3

In the early hours of the morning, a short descent from Gourguet to wake us up will take us gently to the base of the only climb of the day. Throughout this ascent, the landscape becomes more mineral, and we will have the pleasure of encountering all the Port Bieilh lakes.

The Hourquette Nère defends access to the Aygues Cluses valley, opening up the landscape to the west. A gentle descent takes us back to our route of the first day, before returning to civilisation at the end of this mountain escape.

Distance: 12 kms Difference in altitude: 350 m.
