In the hills off the Pyrenees, explore the Madiranais vineyards. An intimate vineyard, it has the image of a full-bodied, powerful wine. But it can also reach heights of finesse and elegance, with the added depth and intensity of its precious tannat. This is what you’ll discover at Château Montus, home of Alain Brumont, the truculent leader of Madiran. He produces wines ranked in the top 20 in the world! And if you choose the right date, you can enjoy the Nuits Impériales at Château Montus or the Festival Musiques et Vins en Madiran. The former features theatre, sound, light and gastronomy, while the latter includes a classical music concert and wine tasting. Last but not least, you’ll be staying in a former Benedictine priory that has become an exceptional address.

Day 1

Arrive and settle into your guest room. You can relax by the pool!
If you have time, take a stroll through the vineyards. There are many enchanting signposted walks, most of them with views of the Pyrenees!

Your evening begins with a concert (choose one of the 4 below). Each concert is followed by a tasting of Madiran and Pacherenc wines.

Day 2

Your breakfast is followed by a visit to the iconic Château Montus winery.

Presentation of the avant-garde philosophy of Alain Brumont, the Man of Renewal, an emblematic figure who revolutionised the Madiran appellation and the Tannat grape variety.
Discover Château Montus, listed as a historic monument, one of the oldest wine-producing mansions in the region (dating from the 10th to the 20th century), the Cuvier bachique and the Cathédrale du Tannat where the wine is matured in foudres, demi-muids and barrels. Stroll around the Château’s moving garden, designed by Gilles Clément.
Visit the first historic underground ageing cellar at Château Bouscassé, a family estate designed by renowned architect Edmond Lay, the formal garden at Château Bouscassé and its kitchen garden.
Immerse yourself in the vines and discover the terroirs that give each cuvée its identity. All the secrets of the DNA of a great wine will be revealed.
Explained and narrated tasting of 6 wines, accompanied by appetisers made from exceptional local produce.
