On the programme for your stay

8 days / 7 nights

Day 1

Arrival > Sanctuary > Torchlight procession

As soon as you arrive, be sure to visit the Sanctuary and the Grotto. This is where the heart of Lourdes beats. You can wander freely around the Sanctuary grounds, with no set itinerary or timing. Most of the visit takes place in the open air, in a vast, green natural setting on the banks of the river.

The spectacle is as fascinating as it is moving. The torch-lit procession that draws an undulating serpentine of light across the Parvis, along the river. It’s the most popular part of the day in Heavyy!

Day 2

Visit to the Sanctuary > Castle

Take time to visit the Sanctuary. Built in just 100 years, on a vast riverside estate, the Sanctuary of Lourdes is an architectural ensemble unique in Europe, and a must-see at least once in your life, whatever your quest – spiritual or simply for discovery.

Built on a rocky outcrop, the fortified castle, a listed historic monument, dominates the Marian city and offers an exceptional view of the Sanctuary. A legacy of its medieval past, it now houses the Pyrenean Museum.

Day 3

Funicular > Rafting descent

The Pic du Jer overlooking the town can be recognised by its large cross, illuminated at night. A century-old funicular takes you up to the summit, at an altitude of around 1000 metres, in just a few minutes. A charming journey guaranteed.

Embark on a discovery or sportingdescent following the meanders of the Gave de Pau. Our instructors know the secrets of every rapid. A great atmosphere and good humour guaranteed!

On the lake side, the Marian city is transformed into a seaside resort. There’s plenty to do: pedal boats, kayaking, stand-up paddle, mountain biking, golf, fishing… It’s also a great place to have lunch on a terrace on the banks of the lake.

Day 4

Meet the shepherds > Pic du Midi > Col du Tourmalet

Today’s itinerary takes the form of a loop. It will be punctuated by unique encounters with Yan and Cédric, the shepherds of the Campan valley, exceptional experiences such as the cable car ride to the summit of the Pic du Midi and stepping into the void on the Ponton dans le ciel, and fabulous scenery and views from the Castelloubon valley and the Col du Tourmalet.

Meet the shepherds

  • Yann and Cédric, shepherds from the Hautes-Pyrénées, welcome you to their south-facing sheepfolds, facing the Pic du Midi, in one of the most beautiful pastoral areas, 15 minutes from Bagnères. During a walk that’s accessible to all, they’ll show you their job. Caring for the animals: suckling lambs, training dogs, distributing hay, etc. Seasonal chores: cutting hay by hand, shearing ewes, etc. The tour ends with a snack based on farm produce.

The Pic du Midi and the Pontoon in the Sky

  • The visit begins with a sensational aerial journey aboard a cable car. It’s a 15-minute ride through vertiginous passages, with 350 metres of emptiness beneath your feet! At the top, 750 m2 of terraces offer an incredible panorama of the Pyrenees, with over 300 km of peaks. Orientation and interpretation tables help you decipher the horizon. Goggles allow you to observe the sun, and in particular the fiery eruptions on the sun! A 12-metre-long footbridge juts out over the void: this is the Pontoon in the Sky. At its end, a glass floor guarantees an adrenalin rush!

The Col du Tourmalet

  • 4 km after the cable car station, you reach the world-famous Col du Tourmalet. At 2,115 m, it is the highest road pass in the Pyrenees. It’s an incomparable lookout point.

Day 5

Cirque de Gavarnie – Unesco

Today, it’s off to the sacred mountain of Gavarnie-Mont Perdu. You’re about to discover some intense and spectacular scenery: Gavarnie, Troumouse and Estaubé, the great cirques of the Pyrenees, listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. More than just geological curiosities, their semi-circular walls create grandiose, extraordinary landscapes. They look like pure invention.

Tip: There’s an easy, pleasant walk (2 hrs return) from the village to the foot of the Cirque. Children love this donkey ride!

Day 6

Animal encounters and activities

Just a few minutes from Lourdes is the largest wildlife park in the Pyrenees, set on a hillside in a vast natural area of greenery and trees, where the animals roam in semi-liberty. There is a signposted trail where you can meet bears, wolves and lynxes, as well as vultures, fallow deer, isards, foxes, marmots and otters… The highlight for children is having their photo taken with the shy marmots!
A few minutes’ drive from the animal park, discover other attractions at the Hautacam leisure park.

  • Activities in the Hautacam park
    • Mountain Luge: acceleration, sharp bends, guaranteed thrills on over 700 m of downhill. For the less daring, don’t panic, the speed can be regulated! From age 3, accompanied. Alone, from 8 years and 1.35 m.
    • Virtual reality: get on board the sled, put on your helmet and let yourself be driven. Discover an incredible world with mascot Lili the sheep! From 8 years upwards.
    • The Zippy Bike: how to ride a bike over the void! A unique sensation, alone or in pairs. For children aged 10 and over and a minimum height of 1.40 m.
    • The Tubby Jump: Sit back in your buoy and fly down the track, landing on a big airbag! From 1.25 m.

Day 7

Cauterets-Pont d’Espagne – Pyrenees National Park

The ideal place to introduce your children to nature. A protected natural site, the park is a haven for flora and fauna. And there are a host of facilities and footpaths offering a variety of ways to enjoy this Garden of Eden in the Pyrenees effortlessly. We recommend taking the two successive ski lifts, the Puntas gondola lift and the Gaube chairlift, for direct access to Lac de Gaube after an extra 15-minute walk. You can then explore the site on the way down, either on foot or by chairlift.
