On the programme for your stay

2 days / 1 night

Between France and Spain, in the heart of the central Pyrenees, the Gavarnie cirque and the Ordesa canyon offer hikers a variety of landscapes, each with its own unique architecture. Because of their geological origin, they share the same contrasting shades of limestone, exceptional flora and an unparalleled wealth of fauna: chamois, marmots, bearded vultures, vultures…

As well as the unity of Europe’s highest limestone massif , the highlight of this “Gavarnie – Ordesa” hiking tour is undoubtedly the incredible diversity of Pyrenean landscapes, from the hanging glaciers of Gavarnie to the rosemary scents of Torla.

Day 1

Towards the Brèche de Roland refuge

Depart from the Col des Tentes and climb to the Sarradets refuge at the foot of the Brèche de Roland. Arrive and settle into the refuge in the early afternoon. As an option, but highly recommended, a return trip to the balconies of the Gavarnie cirque opposite Europe’s largest waterfall, right in the heart of the “Colosseum of Nature”, and why not come across a herd of isards between the two floors of the cirque?
Dinner and evening at the refuge.

Ascent: 750mD+ / 350mD-

Walking time: 5 h

Day 2

The Vire des Fleurs

Breakfast at the refuge.
We pass the Brèche de Roland (2807m), a mythical, grandiose gateway separating the two sides of the Pyrenees! As you approach the Ordesa canyon, the light and colours create a breathtaking landscape in the heart of unspoilt nature. The proximity of isards and marmots is often very surprising. Not to mention the edelweiss-covered meadows. But even crazier is the “vire des fleurs” suspended in the side of the cliff, towering several hundred metres above the valley floor! Aerial without ever being vertiginous, it is an unforgettable moment for any hiker, a very special emotion. The day isn’t over yet, as the crossing of the Col Escuzana and the vire of the same name still offer breathtaking panoramic views!

Difference in altitude: + 1010 m / – 1200 m – 16 km. Walking time: 8 h

Distance: 9 kms Difference in altitude: 750 m.

End of the tour at 5pm.
