Here’s a fun and festive holiday programme for all the family. Venture onto the Ponton dans le Ciel at the summit of the Pic du Midi, climb a series of monkey bridges, zip lines and via ferrata along a river, soak up the sun on the banks of Lake Payolle, splash around in the warm waters of the spa, explore the secret land of the Baronnies and its protective castle, go in search of marmots, play apprentice shepherd… And in the evening, return to your cosy nest in this almost forgotten valley, cradle of so many legends, which has preserved its thatched barns. A haven of peace that has become exotic for all its visitors.

programme

On the programme for your stay

8 days / 7 nights

During your week’s holiday at the Grand Tourmalet, you’ll be able to set your own pace for the days ahead, punctuated by idleness, walks or activities.
From Bagnères-de-Bigorre, your base camp and pretty spa town, you’re spoilt for choice…

  • The pass route between Tourmalet and Aspin
The Col du Tourmalet is the highest road pass in the Pyrenees. It offers spectacular views over the valleys. At the foot of the Pic du Midi, it is one of the legendary passes of the Tour de France.
The Col d’Aspin, wilder, less frequented and lower, offers a delightful route with probably the most extensive panorama. Its summit is dedicated to the grazing of cows and horses.
  • Enjoy a moment of relaxation on the shores of Lake Payolle
Nestling in a forest at the foot of the Col d’Aspin and the Hourquette d’Ancizan, it is known as the ” Little Canada of the Pyrenees “.
The site is ideal for lovely walks between plains and fir trees or a meal by the water. At the bend in the path, you’re sure to come across a family of cows or horses in this mecca of pastoralism.
  • Discover the intimate Lesponne valley
This green setting is home to numerous barns, some of which still have thatched roofs. A walk through a traditional landscape culminating in the Magenta waterfall.

What to do

Take the cable car up to the Pic du Midi

The experience begins with a spectacular aerial journey aboard the Pic du Midi cable car. At the top, take time to visit the site, stroll along the terraces, venture onto the vertiginous Ponton in the sky and admire the view of the Pyrenees chain. Exceptional! We recommend that you arrive at the Pic du Midi in the morning for lunch.

Meet the shepherds

Yan and Cédric, the valley’s shepherds, welcome you to their sheepfolds in one of the most beautiful pastoral areas. During a walk, they’ll show you their job, look after the animals and take part in seasonal activities. The tour ends with a picnic featuring farm produce. It’s a great opportunity for young and old to share some fun times together!

Fun outdoor activities

For a laugh and to test your balance, head for the accrobranche (tree climbing) course and the via ferrata, set in a canyon carved out by the River Adour. Tyrolean traverses, monkey bridges, aerial swings… make for great family fun. The route is suitable for all levels. A signposted footpath invites you to enjoy the show, offering a unique view of the key points along the way.

Meet the marmot

Let us guide you on a short walk to discover the magnificent animal that is the marmot. Marc, your guide, will be taking out his spyglass to observe them and find out more about their life and why not observe other animals!

Walk at the foot of the Arbizon massif to Lac d’Arou – 300 m ascent – Suitable for all the family.

9am: departure by car – 9.30am: arrival at the starting point of the hike
3.15pm: return to the starting point – 4pm: return to the car park

Visit Mauvezin Castle

How would you like to meet one of the most important figures of the Middle Ages? The renowned Gaston Phébus, Count of Foix and Viscount of Béarn, warrior prince, poet, great hunter and architect of a major work: the Château de Mauvezin, which he transformed into an impregnable fortress! In the courtyard, you’ll find the grand keep and its splendid panoramic views! The tour takes you right to the heart of castle life, from the lord’s hall to the dungeon.
