An easy path leads to the chapel of Saint-Calixte (1-hour walk). SAINTE-CALIXTE CHURCH IN CAZAUX-FRÉCHET Isolated on its promontory, in the middle of nature, this almost secret chapel is a precious witness to the first southern Romanesque art in Louron (11th century). Dedicated to an Aragonese martyr, legend has it that this Spanish nobleman died helping the Louronnais fight the Moors. An easy path leads to the village of Mont and its chapel (1-hour walk). VIELLE LOURON CHURCH The church houses the relics of Saint Mercurial, an Aragonese knight who died in Vielle-Louron fighting the Saracens in the 1st quarter of the 11th century. As such, it was a place of pilgrimage during the Middle Ages. The church’s vault features the Tree of Jesse, the four Evangelists and Christ framed by the Apostles. The current sacristy features an archaic yet modern depiction of the Last Judgement.

Your week will be punctuated by activities of all kinds. An inflatable aquapark on the lake, access to the Ludéo aqualudic centre, the ultimate moment of relaxation at the Balnéa balneotherapy centre… And to tame the lake, you’ll have to draw straws: pedalo, canoe or paddle?

You can also enjoy the simple pleasures of the mountains, with a pass for the Skyvall and chairlift that will take you to the summits and give you breathtaking views. The more adventurous can hurtle down the slopes on an all-terrain scooter, accompanied by a friendly instructor full of good advice.

It’s enough to make the pages of your old holiday albums pale into insignificance!

Lake Génos-Loudenvielle

The epicentre of the valley! On its banks, you’ll find a host of leisure activities: tree-hanging courses (over 60 games on 6 courses), two pumptracks, a ludic park with pony rides, inflatable games, zip-lines, a ball pool, the Ludéo centre (water park with slides, water games for children and heated outdoor pools), an area with paint ball activities, archery, axe throwing, not forgetting the Balnéa centre…

On the lake, you can also try your hand at a number of water sports: paddle, yoga paddle, canoeing, pedal-boating, fishing…

Aquaparc and the little beach

A Ninja Warrior-style adventure course with inflatable games, a climbing wall, a slide, a trampoline, etc. of all shapes and sizes, floating on the water and allowing you to run, jump, slide, dive…

You can also eat or simply quench your thirst in a charming waterside guinguette. This new place to relax, with its zen-like, trendy atmosphere, invites you to relax on its deckchairs, have a drink or enjoy a rib steak, with a view of the Louron valley’s cinema backdrop.

Scooters and mountain bikes

Take to the trails and enjoy a thrilling ride on your downhill scooter.

The programme includes 600 m of vertical drop on a specially adapted course, all supervised by qualified instructors. Great fun for all the family.

If you prefer, you can go downhill on a mountain bike or take a guided mountain bike ride along the trails.

Nestling in the heart of one of the most beautiful natural settings in the Hautes-Pyrénées, on the shores of Lake Génos-Loudenvielle, Balnéa does more than just soothe the body and mind. It also gives pleasure to the eyes, which never cease to be amazed by the beauty of the Pyrenees.

Skyvall

You’ll climb 1,500 metres effortlessly and discover a spectacular high-mountain world. You start by boarding the Skyvall, the cable car linking the Louron valley to Peyragudes. The departure station is at Loudenvielle (900 m) near the Mercure hotel, and the arrival station is at the foot of the slopes at Peyresourde (1600 m).

Then take the detachable chairlift that takes you in just a few minutes to the top of the Peyragudes resort at an altitude of 2,400 metres. From these peaks, the view of the Pyrenean peaks is sublime: Spijeoles, Néouvielle, Gourgs blancs, Maladeta, Posets… all topping out at an altitude of 3,000 metres and forming a breathtaking panorama.

Skyvall gondola lift : (900-1600 m): open daily from 6 July to 10 September. Open at weekends in May, June and September – Opening times: 9am to 12.15pm and 1.15pm to 5pm.
Télésiège Privilège | (1600-2200 m): open from 6 July to 8 September, Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays + Wednesdays from 17 July to 21 August – Opening times: 9am to 12.15pm and 1.15pm to 4pm.

Romanesque chapels

The Louron Valley boasts a unique concentration of Romanesque chapels.

Each has splendid murals painted to thank God for the fruitful trade in leather and wool between this French valley and its Spanish neighbour, following the discovery of the New World. Spared by the wars, these chapels are now fascinating listed masterpieces to be discovered.
