Mini-break for two

The way under the stars

In Cauterets-Pont d'Espagne
  • 180

At dusk, on the paths of Cauterets-Pont d’Espagne, between the whimsical roots of the Scots pines, the adventure begins. The sound of your footsteps breaks the silence of the night. And as soon as the stars light up in the sky, the nocturnal animals have a field day. Imagination is at its peak. The setting is sumptuous, the night sparkling in the heart of the Dark Sky Reserve. Here the sky is so dark that it’s easy to see the Orion Nebula with the naked eye. But Joël has brought along a telescope to see even more. After a beautiful starlit night, a hot bath the next day in the sulphurous waters of the balneotherapy centre.

Arrival day

A night out under the starry skies of Cauterets

Arrive in Cauterets and settle into your hotel.

At 5:30 p.m., you meet Joël, your mountain guide and astronomy enthusiast, for a short night-time walk until 11 p.m. Head for the Pont d’Espagne, where the Gave de Gaube and the Gave du Marcadau merge their waters with a bang, to watch the sun set under a clear sky free of light pollution. The walk is punctuated by stops to observe the stars, admire the sky, listen to nature, the sound of the water or simply feel the wind on your skin, as well as sharing a packed lunch. Then it’s time to return by headlamp light, along an easy route…

Day 1

Tour of the village and walk to the Pont d’Espagne

Take a stroll through Cauterets and discover its Belle Époque architecture, the railway station and its western atmosphere, the berlingot factories, the Maison du Parc… Discover the Pont d’Espagne, an emblematic site in the Pyrenees National Park.
You can first take the gondola lift and then the chairlift. A ten-minute walk then takes you to the splendid Lac de Gaube.

Take a leisurely stroll through the valley and relax in the spa

Finally, take advantage of your 2 passes to the Bains du Rocher to discover the benefits of the thermal waters and let yourself be carried away between the steam of the hot water and the bubbles of the jacuzzi! Take a relaxing break in the indoor and outdoor pools to swim against the current, relax in the jacuzzis and enjoy the massaging jets and soothing bubbles. The sauna, hammam and salt-stone relaxation room complete the experience.

Day 2

A gentle start

After your last breakfast, it’s time to leave this pretty haven of peace.

Ideas for outings :

Just like the Pont d’Espagne, the setting at La Fruitière is enchanting. You can stroll along pretty streams and encounter beautiful waterfalls all along the Lutour valley.

To reach the Crêtes du Lys, take the cable car from the village and enjoy a 15-minute climb above the mountains and Cauterets. For even greater heights, take the Grand-Barbat chairlift and you’ll be at an altitude of 2,400 metres. The ride over the ridges is incredible and a magnificent view of the Pyrenean peaks awaits you!

Admire the tumultuous waterfalls for which Cauterets is famous! The Cerisey and Lutour waterfalls don’t require long hours of walking. They’re just a short walk from the road leading to the Pont d’Espagne and well worth a stop. You can also opt for a short hike along the waterfalls trail, which starts at La Raillère.
