The Labastide caves
and the Prehistory areaJoin an enthusiastic guide as he takes you back in time to follow in the footsteps of our Stone Age ancestors. Along the way, look out for the footprints of prehistoric animals, such as the cave bear, a 3-metre-high herbivore. In front of the Grotte Blanche, observe the birth of primitive fire in a Magdalenian tent. The walls are damp and sometimes shed a tear. Wrapped up in blankets, everyone murmurs so as not to awaken memories of the place, because prehistoric man still seems to haunt these caves.
In this finely sculpted theatre, animated images, sound and light take you right back to prehistoric times. Cave art fills the space. The visit continues from workshop to workshop to relive the ancestral gestures that have shaped our humanity. You can paint with your fingers and see who is the best mammoth artist in the family. Then it’s on to the fun trail, where children can try their hand at becoming a real little prehistoric hunter.
