The Mousquère mill

in Sailhan

Located halfway between Sailhan and Estensan, the Mousquère mill seems suspended in time. This sturdy square building spans the torrent that bears its name. The force of the water drives the spinning wheel with a gentle chatter that accompanies your steps. Built in the Middle Ages and lovingly restored, the mill invites you into the world of the millers of yesteryear.

Step through the small wooden door. You’ll walk on the flagstones worn by the centuries, surrounded by tools hanging from the rough stone walls. The mill mechanism comes to life before your very eyes, as if it had never stopped turning. Outside, a shaded picnic area and an educational trail await you, perfect for extending this timeless interlude in the heart of nature.

The mills of Gèdre-dessus

in Gèdre-Dessus

At Moules Dera, a string of five mills stretches along the Gave de Campbielh. These beautifully restored mills date back to the 14th century. They are easily reached by car via a narrow, little-travelled road. But for a more immersive experience, the footpath that starts in the village of Gèdre is ideal. Between meadows and traditional farms, slow your pace to reconnect with nature and rural traditions. The song of the Gave guides you towards these stone structures. Once there, an interpretation trail with explanatory panels will help you understand how they work and their history.
