Cirque de Gavarnie – Unesco
57 km / 1h14
The Cirque de Gavarnie jumps out at you as soon as you cross the village! More than 5 kilometres in circumference, vertical walls 1,500 metres high and hundreds of waterfalls. A master of words, Victor Hugo described it as follows: “It is the most mysterious edifice of the most mysterious architects; it is the colossus of nature: it is Gavarnie”. The more adventurous can try their hand at vertical hiking on the Cirque wall or the via ferrata at Coumély.
The Soulor, Aubisque and Marie-Blanque passes
107 km / 2h25
Soulor, Aubisque and Marie-Blanque are the three passes on the programme for this day, which promises some magnificent panoramas! And at the end of the road, a surprise. An image straight out of an electric train set. Perched 900 metres above sea level is the village of Lescun, a small village with slate roofs surrounded by green meadows and limestone cliffs. The place is nicknamed “The Dolomites of the Pyrenees”. To stretch your legs, take an easy hike up to the belvedere and savour the beauty of the scenery.

From the Holzarte footbridge to the La Verna cave
115 km / 2h40
You’ll discover two exceptional and unsuspected sites on a charming loop route, taking you along small, almost secret roads. The Holzarté footbridge: a 70-metre-long footbridge suspended on steel cables between two cliffs, with a 150-metre drop below. And the Grotte de la Verna, the largest underground chamber in the world: 240 metres in diameter and 194 metres high, it could hold up to 6 Notre-Dame de Paris cathedrals.
From the Cirque de Lescun to Spain
59 km / 1h05
Spectacular and daring, the Chemin de la Mature was carved out of the cliffs in the 18th century. Its vertiginous route has made it famous. Although its construction was perilous, the Chemin de la Mature is now an attraction open to all, well worth a look before crossing the Col du Somport to the Spanish side of the Pyrenees.

Mallos de Riglos to Alquézar
156 km / 2h23
It’s a completely different setting and a completely different atmosphere that you are about to discover today. When the Mallos, those impressive 300-metre-high, ochre-tinted walls of pudding rock, appear without warning, you can feel the Far West in this arid Aragon. We linger in the village and at the “los buitres” viewpoint, watching the vultures soar and marvelling at the landscape. Then it’s time to get back on the road, crossing fertile plains covered with fields of wheat, olive, almond and cherry trees before reaching Alquézar, a village perched on an eagle’s nest.
From Congost de Mont-Rebei to Ainsa
178 km / 2h20
Vertiginous cliffs, turquoise waters, wild nature: the ” Congost ” (“gorge” in Catalan) of Mont-Rebei is a truly fascinating place. You can discover and explore it by canoe or, with your heart firmly in the right place, by taking an old mule track carved into the rock above the river, and some very aerial suspended footbridges!

Ordesa Canyon

The Balcons of the Ordesa Canyon – Unesco
94 km / 1h39
Unique in Europe, with its Dantesque walls, the grand canyon of Ordesa looks like the Colorado of the Pyrenees. Vertiginous cliffs, suspended cirques, aerial “fajas”, sparkling waterfalls, Ordesa is the expression of excess. Its mineral walls contrast with a lush, fertile landscape, creating landscapes of extreme beauty and astonishing originality.
From La Route des Lacs de Haute Montagne to Saint-Lary
90 km / 1h56
Take the scenic Route des Lacs de Haute Montagne, the highest route in the Pyrenees, to reach the monumental Cap-de-Long dam. The 100-metre-high dam and its 40km of underground tunnels, which drain water to the hydroelectric power station in the neighbouring Gavarnie valley, were built on a titanic scale. Today, the Cap-de-Long dam is one of the largest water reservoirs in the Pyrenees, but its fjord-like appearance also makes it an enchanting sight in the landscape.
