A legendary pie
If the Védère biscuit factory is famous, it’s first and foremost for its Tourtes and Biscuits Pyrénéens, the result of many years of pastry-making tradition. The story began in 1905, when the Brau family started making biscuits near the beautiful Massey Gardens.
At the same time, while the Védère family was expanding into the bakery business, the family’s grandmother preferred her pies to good bread. Every Sunday, while the house oven was still warm, she would slip her golden delicacy into the oven, much to the delight of the whole family. The tourte delighted the palates and little by little its fame spread beyond the family circle… thus was born the legend of the Tourte Pyrénéenne, of which Védère has the secret!
The company abandoned bread and devoted itself entirely to the production of its pies, cakes and other Pyrenean “fondants”. It was a huge success, and it wasn’t long before Védère bought out the Brau biscuit company, creating the gourmet palate we know today on the banks of the railway line!
